Product Engineer Planning & Assignment Day of Operations

Because of the rapidly changing digital environment KLM wants to become the most data & technology driven airline in the world. Changing our way of working, modernizing our technology stack and architecture and the right positioning of the people in this Data & Technology organization is key in achieving this ambition. The core of this new organization are business platforms, consisting of product teams organized around business processes, whereby business and IT are together end-to-end responsible for the digital products and services that support those business processes.

What are you going to do:

During the set up and definition of the aforementioned program to enable our digital transformation, a clear vision and roadmap is defined for one of our key applications, called CHIP. CHIP is one of our digital products used daily at our Amsterdam Airport Schiphol Hub to plan and execute our processes. CHIP is acquired from one of our vendors and implemented at KLM.

You will be a product engineer of the day of operations product team. In particular, you will be a product engineer for processes in CHIP. Your team ensures our day-to-day operation can continue and is empowered through the modelling, implementation of business rules and applying changes to the product configuration to drive operational excellence.

Your focus will be on assuring our business continuity in the midst of the changes that will take place. Therefore, you will be a critical factor in executing our modernization roadmap, together with the other product teams.

The key result areas of the product engineer are:

  • Perform essential configuration activities in CHIP, such as database entries (e.g., new aircraft type) and server configuration files (e.g. PERL code)
  • Engage in modeling within CHIP, for example to build and change business rules
  • Gather business requirements, translate these into product requirements and implement these in CHIP
  • Manage service desk operations for CHIP
  • Work with the digital transformation team for alignment and proactively suggest improvements to CHIP
  • Acts in such a manner as to contribute to the desired culture both within the platform and in interaction with the business

You are:

  • You are experienced in gathering, analyzing, and translating business requirements into technical specifications and implementing these into systems
  • You are experienced in maintenance of applications (vendor applications is a plus)
  • You have technical proficiency in SQL, database management, interfaces/webservices, Microsoft server environments, and business process modeling
  • You possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to address complex issues effectively
  • You are an excellent communicator, adept at conveying technical information to non-technical stakeholders
  • You demonstrate effective collaboration skills, working seamlessly with both IT and business team members in large organizations
  • You are adaptable and flexible, ready to take on new challenges and learn new technologies as needed
  • You are passionate about Digital innovation
  • You are capable to inspire, motivate, coach team members to adapt to the new organizational set-up and towards the new way of working
  • Preferably, you have experience in airline operations or a similar field, bringing an understanding of the operational context in which CHIP is used
  • You are fluent in Dutch and English
