Application developer

Job Description and skills needed:

·       Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or related field.

·       5-10 years of experience in application development that includes working with IMS DB and COBOL DB2

·       In-depth understanding of IMS-DB, IMS-calls, IMS queries.

·       Should be able to analyze existing COBO-DB2L code and modify it as required also should be able write efficient and complex COBOL-DB2 code from scratch.

·       Proficiency in programming languages such as COBOL, JCL, SQL for DB2.

·       Strong understanding of IMS-DB and DB2 databases, including data structures, access methods, and utilities.

·       Experience with migration tools and utilities is a plus.

·       Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to analyze complex systems and requirements.

·       Attention to detail and commitment to delivering high-quality solutions on time and within budget.

·       Collaborate with the project team to understand requirements and design solutions for migrating IMS-DB to DB2.

·       Analyze existing IMS-DB applications and databases to identify dependencies, data structures, and business logic.

·       Develop and execute migration scripts, programs, and utilities to transfer data from IMS-DB to DB2 while ensuring data integrity and consistency.

·       Modify and optimize application code to leverage DB2 features and functionality, ensuring performance and scalability.

·       Perform testing, debugging, and troubleshooting of migrated applications to validate functionality and identify and resolve issues.

·       Document migration processes, code changes, and configurations for reference and future maintenance.

·       Document the unit testing process, end-to-end integration testing process.

·       Collaborate with database administrators, Application Analyst and other IT teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of migrated applications in the DB2 environment.

·       Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies related to database migration and application development.
