Wemerson Cesar Silva Carrijo – Data Engineer

Where did you start your career?

I am Wemerson Cesar Silva Carrijo, hailing from Brazil. My educational journey began with a degree in Software Analysis and Development from the University Center of Brasilia (UNICEUB). It was further enriched by a specialization in Software Engineering from the University Center and Higher Education of Brasilia (IESB). I also pursued an MSc in Computer Science at the University of Brasilia (UNB), although I didn’t complete it. Over the past 14 years, I have amassed extensive experience in IT, including eight years dedicated to big data projects across Brazil, Portugal, and the Netherlands. My career trajectory includes roles such as data engineer, big data solution architect, BI developer, team lead, full stack Java developer, and more.

What are you doing now?

Currently, I am a senior data engineer at LINKIT (since I moved to the Netherlands!). My role involves supporting LINKIT customers with their big data projects, mentoring junior/medior data engineers, and contributing to innovation projects within the company. My responsibilities include:

Working at KLM as a data engineer and data support engineer, I assist data scientists, BI developers, data owners, and managers in making decisions regarding data storage, architecture, and security. I also design, develop, and maintain data architecture and pipelines for predictive aircraft maintenance using aircraft data (Black Box data). At KLM, I am involved in different projects and have the opportunity to work with three main cloud providers, which adds to my experience in the pros and cons of different technologies from these cloud providers.

What are your ambitions?

I am driven by the desire to evolve continuously in big data and data engineering. My ambitions include deepening my expertise in advanced data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to enhance further my ability to develop cutting-edge data solutions. I aim to stay at the forefront of technological advancements and contribute to innovative projects that push the boundaries of data engineering.

What can we wake you up for in the middle of the night?

Any urgent big data challenges or critical issues requiring immediate attention can wake me up in the middle of the night. Whether it’s troubleshooting a critical data pipeline, solving a complex data problem, or ensuring the stability and security of a data architecture, I am always ready to tackle pressing issues to ensure smooth and efficient data operations.
