Craving a Career Change?
Waking up on a weekday, dragging yourself out of bed, and thinking, “Another day… again?” can be draining. If you’re craving something new, something more exciting, it might be a sign that it’s time for a career change. These days, more and more people are rethinking their work and going after joy and fulfilment instead of sticking to the same old routine. After all, life’s too short to feel stuck, right?
Have you ever thought about a tech career? Demand for tech professionals is skyrocketing, and low-code development is especially attractive for career changers. The tech world offers solid job security, great salaries, and flexibility—often with remote work options. Working from your favourite coffee shop? Yes, please.
Why Low-Code Makes the Switch Easier
Low-code platforms like Mendix allow people without a coding background to jump in and start building functional applications using visual tools. Skills from various fields translate well, making it an accessible and practical path for career changers. If you’re creative and enjoy solving problems, you’re already on the right path.
I know because I’ve made this move. After exploring different careers—art school, teaching, optometry, account management—I still felt unhappy with my workdays. I wanted a career that combined creativity with analytical thinking. So, I quit my job and started a front-end development course. Shortly after, I got a LinkedIn message about a low-code traineeship at LINKIT. It turned out to be one of my best decisions.
The Journey: From Bootcamp to Junior Developer
The traineeship brought together five of us from totally different backgrounds, and we learned directly from our future colleagues. It began with a two-month boot camp covering Mendix essentials, app development, Agile, and more, followed by 10 months of hands-on client projects.
We ended the boot camp with real-world projects, including a ‘challenge app’ where coworkers can dare each other to complete tasks—an app now in use at the company. Throughout the program, we earned Mendix certifications, progressing from Rapid Developer to Intermediate and Advanced. Successfully completing the traineeship meant a promotion to junior developer—all achievable in less than a year!
Why Low-Code Could Be the Right Fit for You
Low-code development blends creativity, problem-solving, and teamwork, making every day engaging. While challenges like learning new tools and concepts arise, the collaborative nature of low code makes it easier to navigate.
For me, it’s opened up a fulfilling new chapter in my career, and I’m excited about the growth opportunities ahead. If this resonates with you, explore your options—whether it’s a traineeship, online courses, or certifications. The opportunities in tech are wide open, and your next career move might be closer than you think.
