And the buzzphrase of the year is … the Cloud! Just like last year and the year before, since the breakthrough of working in the cloud, a good five years ago, there has been a boom in cloud migrations. More and more, companies are relocating their working environment and apparently they are very satisfied with it. But what is about the cloud? Is working in or with the cloud really that affordable? It is high time to take a closer look at the most important reasons for a cloud migration.
1. Flexibility
Put simply, the cloud main advantage can be summed in one word: flexibility. By working through a portal in a web browser you can work wherever and whenever you want. In addition, scalability increasingly plays an important role. Many companies need extra computing power at peak times. With your own server you can arrange it all yourself. With your cloud provider you can flexibly purchase resources whenever it is demanded. In addition, you can continue to grow in the cloud in terms of users, without ever having to run out of server space. Furthermore, it is much easier in the Cloud to automate work processes. For example, many SaaS applications have easy-to-use API’s that allow you to link them. Enough benefits!
2. Management, but differently …
When it comes to management, cloud migration almost always causes major changes. The files are often transferred to an external environment, so that you are no longer responsible for technical management. That duty now rests with the cloud provider. This considerably changes the role of the manager.
He or she is of course still responsible for the applications. However, the emphasis now is much more on security because in principle everyone can log in via a browser. As a manager you have to keep a close eye on this. Monitoring of the environment and keeping up to date with automatic updates remains important. This is a role that evolves and changes with the pace of technology, but if taken up properly the manager can work a lot more proactively, with more attention for the needs of the business.
3. The magic of Microsoft
One of the biggest drivers of cloud migration is Microsoft Office 365. Of course you can also use it without the cloud, but that feels somewhat half-hearted. There are few companies in the Netherlands that do not use Microsoft Office. Microsoft has expanded a lot in its Office environment in recent years. Depending on your package, Office 365 offers just about every application you need in an office environment. From Microsoft Word to Teams, Sharepoint and Power BI. With so much market dominance, the temptation to migrate is very high.
After our own switch to Office 365, the assessment of the working environment increased by almost two points on a scale of ten. A prerequisite is that a great deal of time and attention must be paid to the entire adoption process, so that staff learn to use the new work environment in an efficient manner.
4. The magic of LINKIT
If one thing is important with a Cloud migration, then it is knowledge transfer. This is crucial to make optimal use of the benefits, to perform management accurately and to include your employees in the entire change process of work. And that is precisely what LINKIT is good at. By performing the cloud migration together with your IT department and supporting your company where your expertise is lacking, the migration remains manageable and you keep control and control in your own hands.
